Projects with a value of up to $100,000. This award category is open to all Otago CCNZ members.

Entries are open to all members of the Otago Branch, Civil Contractors NZ. All projects entered must have been completed within the last 12 months at the date of entry. Contracts must have been completed, with completion certificates, by closing date of entries.

The award entry is made up of the following questions:

  • Company Profile
  • Scope
  • Safety - 10% contribution to score
  • Innovation - 20% contribution to score
  • Technical Difficulty - 10% contribution to score
  • Project Management - 10% contribution to score
  • Client Satisfaction - 10% contribution to score
  • Project Profile - 10% contribution to score
  • Quality of Work - 15% contribution to score - Final quality of workmanship will be viewed during on-site inspection of the project.
  • Environmental Matters - 10% contribution to score
  • Presentation of Entry - 5% contribution to score - this assists the judges to understand the project and enable elements to be assessed. Photos etc should be named and show progress of the project and enable conditions to be understood etc.

Eligibility

Entries are open to all members of the Otago Branch, Civil Contractors NZ. All projects entered must have been completed within the last 12 months at the date of entry. Contracts must have been completed, with completion certificates, by closing date of entries. Entries are restricted to one of the 5 categories.

Award Application Questions

Company Profile

Please supply the below information:

  • General nature of business, structure (e.g. limited company, owner operator etc.), years in operation, growth of the company, achievements
  • Number of staff, staff training systems, staff policies, etc.
  • Safety policy and safety record, quality control methodology, environmental policy

Scope

Briefly outline the scope of works of your contract i.e. what are the physical boundaries, what is your responsibility etc.

Safety - 10% contribution to score

Evidence of site safety management plans, toolbox meetings, site specific hazard ID, safety plans accident registers etc. must be provided to enable assessment of safety management including traffic management.
Failure to include evidence will mean no marks can be scored.

Include a summary of:

  • Number of hours worked by staff
  • Number of accidents notified to DoL, number of other accidents/incidents or near misses
  • Accident ratio for last 12 months (use ratio of serious harm accidents per 100 000 hrs), improvements from previous year
  • Staff involvement in HSE policy, training procedures etc.

Innovation - 20% contribution to score

Marks will be allocated for innovative construction methods, techniques, management, design etc. that provided an advantage to the contractor.

Technical Difficulty - 10% contribution to score

Describe whether any special skills were required and whether any abnormal conditions were encountered during the contract requiring special techniques to be developed.

Project Management - 10% contribution to score

Describe the complexity of the project and management structure/practices used, number of and management of subcontractors.

Client Satisfaction - 10% contribution to score

Please provide letters or references etc. from clients to show the level of satisfaction. The judges may also make enquiries of the client, developer, neighbours etc.

Project Profile - 10% contribution to score

The visibility of the project will be considered in considering the effect of the project on the public, neighbours, special interest groups etc. Include evidence of how the contractor has worked to minimise effects on the public.

Environmental Matters - 10% contribution to score

Describe the projects effect on the environment, risks and challenges faced and mitigation used. Provide evidence of any Environmental Management Plan and its implementation.
